Inspirational Stories: Heroes in Sports

This week I decided to research different stories in the sports world and post a few. Today's story couldn't be written any better than Rick Reilly's ESPN the Magazine's article. I hope you find inspiration in the life of Barry Scott.

Does UNC deserve a unanimous Top Rank?

This 2008-2009 NCAA Basketball season begins with Duke v. Presbyterian on Monday the 10th, but it also begins with a bit of controversy.

The 2008-2009 UNC Tarheels are without their star forward and yet they still received a unanimous vote for the Top Rank in both AP and ESPN polls. Tyler Hansbrough also received a unanimous vote to become a pre-season All-American. Note- Tyler Hansbrough is out for at least two weeks with a stress reaction in his shin. Granted Tyler is the reigning MVP, but shouldn't you play in the Pre-Season to become an All-American? And shouldn't UNC have to prove they can perform without Hansbrough before they get a unanimous vote for the top team in the country?

I believe that UNC belongs on top, and I believe that had Tyler played and shown he is in better condition than last year, than he should be a Pre-Season All-American. However Tyler has not shown us what to expect from him this year, and UNC has not shown us that they can play without Hansbrough. UCONN and Louisville deserve at least one vote for the number one spot, and until UNC and Hansbrough perform there should be doubts about each of them, and there will be plenty of teams waiting to feed off of those doubts.

UNC's First Game: Saturday, November 15th -Penn at UNC
Look for a rested Hansbrough to test his leg and look for UNC to test their bench and learn their capabilities in case Tyler cant go. This game will be a chance for Tyler to play less and ease back onto the court, and a chance for Carolina to test their bench every time Hansbrough sits.
