Are you serious?! I predicted Pitt to win that game, and I am disappointed in their loss, but it is not the loss that upsets me, it’s the way they lost. With over 5 seconds left to play Villanova executed a play they practice everyday to end their sessions. Good for them, but what was Pitt doing? The pass stretched from baseline to half court and then was quickly dished to a player making a fast break, who scored with 0.5 seconds left on the clock. And Pitt, well they were already waiting to start overtime. With the game on the line no one challenged the shot, and Villanova strolled to the hoop and won the game. Where was the foul? Where was the hack that maybe left the player shaken so he missed 1 of his 2 shots? As soon as the ball was passed off for the fast break Pitt’s player, #45, should have shoved or grabbed the ball-handler preventing an attempt at the basket and stopping the clock with four seconds left.
What happens next, had Pitt been smart, could have won them the game. Villanova might have made the 2 baskets, giving them the lead, or maybe they hit one, or none. No matter the outcome of the free throw shots, you have to give yourself time to run a play. Pitt could have used the 4 seconds to score 2 points and then, based on the free throw situation’s outcome, they would have tied the game or won by one. Pitt’s lack of heart and attack is sickening. After watching them give up the game like there was nothing left for them to do but die leaves me wishes they hadn’t made it this far. I can’t help but feel like there are much more deserving teams in the NCAA. Hell at this point Eastern Tennessee State deserved to be in this game more than Pitt. At last they fight till the end.
Congratulations Villanova and good luck in the final four.
