Angels’ Team Manager, Tony Reagins, released a written statement. “The Angels family has suffered a tremendous loss today. We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nick's family, friends, loved ones and fans."Three of the four passengers of the Mitsubishi were killed, and the fourth is still being treated at the hospital. The car was struck when a minivan ran a red light and struck two cars. The gray Mitsubishi was thrown into a power pole.
The minivan's driver fled the scene but was caught a short time later. Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, of Riverside is being held on charges of manslaughter, felony driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
Adenhart is survived by his father, Jim, and mother, Janet. Mr. Adenhart had attended his son’s first start of the season, and his wife is now expected to meet him in California Thursday.
The Angels' scheduled game against the A's Thursday night has not be canceled, yet is not expected to take place. The team will meet with Mike Scoscia. At this time there has been no announcement of funerals or memorials and team officials were checking with Major League Baseball on the protocol.
Today the sports world morns the loss of one of its children and we should all take a moment to put baseball on hold, remember the man and his life, and hold a moment of silence for Adenhart and his family.
